Another opportunity for the horse lover to visit the stud to
enjoy a day of displays and demonstrations by the magnificent purebred Spanish
and Lusitano horses from the stud. Hundreds of you enjoyed the day last year
and even more visitors are anticipated this year.
On arrival you will be greeted with a glass of sherry and invited
to look around at the horses and trade stands.
Displays and demonstrations will take place throughout the morning
and afternoon (with a break for lunch) and will include:
- The stud's Stallions being worked in hand; on the Long Rein; under saddle
and being driven - Richard Lüst will demonstrate a 'Latto de Yeguas' (
a group of mares worked simultaneously in hand with foals at foot), as
well as showing you this year's youngstock (which may be for sale).
- The Oakley Hunt will give a parade of hounds and you will be able to
see for yourself how horses are prepared for the showing - Spanish style
in the classical tradition.
- New this year will be the Doma Vaquera Demonstration Doma Vaquera UK
has recently been launched and this exciting horse sport will be demonstrated
to encourage you to train and participate in future competitions. Whether
you are likely to take part personally in the future or not, we urge you
to watch this performance which requires amazing skills. You can become
a member of the Doma Vaquera Association - full details will be available
at the Open Day.
- Visit the new specialist Spanish and Portuguese Tack and Costume Shop
- even those of you who are 'horseless' may find the Spanish leather boots
irresistible!
- There will be various trade stands and details of Associations available
including: Snr Rafael Lemos - Display and sale of equine photography (Spain's
leading photographer).
- Sue Wingate will be on Field Galleries' stand with a selection of cards
and prints for sale, plus a selection of original paintings and drawings
for sale.
- Full information will be available from the National Foaling Bank, the
British Association for the Purebred Spanish Horse, The Lusitano Breed
Society of GB and the Classical Riding Club.
- There will be a Grand Raffle with a selection of wonderful prizes. A
Bar, Hog Roast, Salad Bar and Sweets, plus cream teas and Ice Cream will
be available and there is ample free parking.
- This promises to be a wonderful day's entertainment, so make a note
in your diary now!
